The newest replacement for the standard RSS protocol is set to become a “fully decentralized network that is flexible, efficient, and extensible.”
According to the report published by Natural Selection Labs (NSL), which is the development team at the forefront of the project, RSS3 will potentially become the standard protocol for Web3 adoption.
In fact, the team has previously managed to rake in some capital from multiple backers in the blockchain industry including Dragonfly Capital, Fabric Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, Dapper Labs, Hashkey Group, Huobi Capital, amongst other venture capital and angel investors.

The RSS feed became a choice for most sites, especially forums, because it would track multiple websites in a single place, and users would be able to check out the newest content of their favorite platforms.
While the original RSS protocol has dominated for quite a while due to it being decentralized, multiple large platforms like Facebook and Google removed support for the feed standard, pretty much blowing it out of the water.
Natural Selection Labs state that this led to centralized companies basically taking over the network, causing concerns for “privacy infringement, profit misappropriation, censorship, algorithm abuse, and data monopoly.”
The whitepaper suggests that RSS3 will be updated regularly, and will be used to carry out multiple activities on Web3, including browser games, social media platforms, next-gen apps with ensured security measures.
While the decentralized RSS3 protocol has been already built, it is expected to release within 6 to 8 months, and may take even longer to make it fully decentralized.
