This includes cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin
This decision supports the organization’s goal of raising $25 million for its Emergency Hunger Relief Fund. The fund helps provide ongoing food support to 58 million people facing serious hunger.

Meanwhile, the decision to accept crypto is due to the previous US administration ending funding for UN food assistance in 14 countries, including Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen. UN officials have since warned that this loss of support could put millions of lives at risk.
Dorota Amin, who oversees partnerships and fundraising, stated that traditional systems are under pressure and new tools like blockchain and cryptocurrency are now essential.
She added that as needs grow and budgets tighten, crypto donations open the door to a group of people who want to make a difference.
There are also advantages for those donating. Cryptocurrency payments usually come with lower fees, faster delivery of funds, and potential tax deductions. This allows a larger share of each donation to go directly to those in need, with money arriving in minutes instead of days.
